A small finish

Fraidy Frog by Just Nan
Pattern in Just Cross Stitch Magazine
Stitched on 28 ct beige linen

I stitched this little design, and finished it as a tin topper for a Halloween exchange. It's so cute, I need to make one for myself.

Scream Girls - BOO!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Hehehe yes I know a little early, but decided to share anyway since Halloween is tomorrow for me. ;)
Scream Girls by Just Nan. I wanted to stitch something bright, cheerful and spooky to celebrate this Halloween, and Scream Girls was perfect!

Christmas Collaboration Part 1

Hello everyone, need a bit of help.
I came across another collaboration piece that Just Nan did with The Shepherd's Bush and Charland Designs, called the Christmas Collaboration.

You can see the stitched version of it here:

http://www.netsnapshot.com/users/5441/images/PnXkucCoBQIAACrJQ6U_5441_95.jpg

I've been lucky enough to get my hands on the Just Nan part of this collaboration, but would dearly love to be able to do the other two parts as well. Does anyone have these and would be willing to sell them to me?

Spooky tin

Spooky tin
Peoria Purple WDW linen (30ct)
Stitched with DMC
related post on my blog

Another fun little tin, and the finish was pretty easy. I guess I assumed something so cute would be hard to make. :) The hard part is keeping my four year-old son from playing with it!

I have another small JN finish which will be ready to show off soon.

Stitching Bits & Bobs Sale

Hi ladies, normally I wouldn't post about sales on sites n such, but I thought I had better share this one as some of the stuff for sale isn't easy to find for us Just Nan fans!

https://www.stitchingbitsandbobs.com/cgi-bin/Store/pageread.cgi?JustNanClearance

Items of interest include the ever so pretty but hard to find frame for True Blue Heart, as well as the Garden Maze frame.

Also if you've been thinking about getting the Gilded Dragonfly Scissor Purse & Fob Kit, it's going for a fairly cheap price, and Porcelain Nosegay comes with the original button, and not the newer release visions one that reprints now come packaged with.

I really want the True Blue Heart and Garden Maze frames! XD

Finishes and a start

It's been a while but here are some finishes and a new start!

Just Nan Over the Top Tin 2008. I finally got my needlecase back from the finisher because I had messed it up so badly. She saved my skin! It turned out perfect!
Fraidy Frog from the JCS Halloween issue from this year done on the required fabric with DMC flosses finished into a Whimiz with a Magic Mat.

Batty Jack from the JCS Halloween premier issue 2008 finished into a limited edition Whimizi.

And finally, I started Counting Bats today on 28 count cashel Frenzy with the required silks. I'm really liking this one so far..I just LOVE the colors!
I've also started Scream House but I haven't worked on it in a while. You can see pictures of that on my blog. :) Lori

Jump For Joy

Recently finished stitching Jump For Joy by Just Nan. It is a complimentary design you got when you purchased the White Hare charm.

Wanted to get my stitching mojo back, and this was fun and small... plus since it is Spring here in New Zealand, it was the perfect design to stitch.
ONCE I get a job, I want to get it framed and display it on a wee easel. The idea will be eventually to stitch up a variety of JN smalls to swap out for display depending on my mood, the seasons and holidays.

btw if you are hunting for this design, make sure you get in touch with the store owners and confirm that they ARE also including the pattern with the charm, some stores don't. :(

New finish

Well I am a member for such a long time meanwhile but never send a post...so here it is...my first JN finished for this year...lol...I stitched it in the beginning of the year already and wanted to finish it as a pinkeep, but that´s soooo much time I need for that, I am not so good in finishing...and then I found a frame and it was framed in some minutes;-)) I like it...can someone help which design it is??

JN pinkeep

I made this pinkeep for an exchange, as you can see it's from the Sirens of the Sea pattern. It's stitched on hand dyed fabric by Polstitches. I really enjoyed stitching this piece, and looking forward to stitching the whole thing for myself. I added some small fish beads on the ends of the ribbon at the side, and was please with how it turned out.

Nan's Scream House

Construction is up and away on this one! I so love Halloween and I finally sat down to stitch this one up. I'm backstitching as I go but will attach the beads last before assembly. Beginning construction pictures are on my blog :) I'm excited too because next week my Counting Bats and my Tin should be coming! Yeah!
Oh and I found out late last week that Nan's new little charm box is a bird! So we have Scarlet, Bella, and a bird named Noelle! That should be out next month after the market. Yeah! Enjoy!

Counting Bats - Coming Soon!

I am very excited about this new release later in the month from Just Nan.
It's called Counting Bats. And I already called my LNS for the chart and thread pack to preorder.
I am not a fan of ABC samplers so love that this is numbered.
Here is a picture of it:

New Nan Tin-Spooky

This is Nan's new tin coming out in late August...if you're not on the automatic, I suggest you snatch this one up quick! By far being a major fan of Halloween, I think this one is the best yet. The top of the tin is a witches hat! I LOVE it. Lori

Poor Jack

This is a freebie called Poor Jack. It came from The Silver Needle with an order for Scream House and its bits and bobs. I stitched it on Light Mocha rather than the Country Mocha suggested, basically because that was all I had.

Poor Jack

It measures 2"x 2" and the WhimZi frame to go with it has just been ordered!

Just Nan RR

Hi all, I know a few weeks ago I mentioned the possibility of taking part in a Just Nan RR, hope you don't mind if I just send out a reminder.
Information and sign ups can be found here: http://twbbroundrobins.yuku.com/forums/93

Would love for this to kick off, as I personally have never taken part in a rr, and for it to be a Just Nan one would make it that much more special.
Thanks :)

Framed Finishes

I brought these framed finishes home today. Queen of the Needle and Sirens of the Sea. No mats and no glass but I just love them this way.

March Hare and Frost on the Pumpkin

This is Nan's March Hare Whimzi that she had out in 2006. He was so much fun to stitch. I have a really big weakness for these whimzi's. I can't WAIT to show you my Nan whimzi Halloween Tree. I may have to get it out and decorate it just to post a pic for you!

Her original Frost on the Pumpkin was in a Whimzi form that she had as a limited edition at the last CATS in Hershey. I was fortunate enough to have a fellow stitchy friend pick me up one since my travels are limited.

Other Exchange Received

Well, the other exchange I stitched has been received so I can show it here. I made this as a RAK for a cyber friend who has been under the weather. I used Just Nan Heart Butterfly, and used blues. I finished it as an ornament. The back is shown next to it. I love this pattern and will probably stitch it again.

Intro

This is a bit belated as I joined a little while ago - I am Marie in South Australia - a total Just Nan addict!!

I have done quite a few pieces now but thought I would share with you a couple of my most recent - her 15 sided biscornu and my finish for Winter Violets. You can see more on my blog and my older finishes are in my webshots album .

Sorry guys, didn't think to put the links when I first wrote this lol. Have fixed it now

Sent as exchange.

Just Nan-Potpourri-Freebie stitched on 28ct white Jobalan
I finished this as an ornament and sent it out for a Just Nan Exchange. It was a really fun and fast stitch. Changed some of the colors, trying to use what I have in my stash. Nothing to drastic though. Also used a bee charm I had on hand.

Just Nan Sirens of the Sea Finish

Just Nan
Sirens of the Sea

This was a delightful stitch; very colorful and full of summertime fun. Makes you want to head to the beach. I did not stray too far from the chart. I only altered a couple of things. I changed some over 1 stitching to over 2 and used a couple of overdyed threads. The fabric is 28 count cotten candy opalescent jobelyn (or lugana, I forget) from Enchanted fabrics. I stitched this over 2 (mostly). I started it on June 18, 2009 and finished it today July 2, 2009.

Two exchanges!

I have just finished two exchanges pieces. I can't show them until they are received. I love Just Nan as they are small and fast stitches. I love changing the colors so that they match the personality of the person I am sending to or myself.

New here

Hi everyone

Thanks to Tracy for letting me join. I've been a JN fan for many years, and have acquired many JN charts over the years. Last year I started to have a JN day each week, and only stitched on JN on Sundays. Lately this has stopped, but I need to resurrect it, would anyone care to join me on JN Sundays? I can't stitch tomorrow though.

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Another new member!

Thanks for letting me join! I have many Just Nan patterns just begging me to stitch them, so I hope this blog will help! This is one I did not too long ago for a biscornu blog I am also on....it is Just Nan's Beaded Roses.

I'm in a Tropical Mood

Just Nan
Sirens of the Sea

This progress photo is for my friends out there who are about to stitch this and wanted to see how it is stitching up. I am using dmc floss and the colors are gorgeous on this piece!

As usual, I have not stuck to the chart. I have strayed a little but not a lot. The greens at the top are dmc variations #4050 which I think really sets off the mood for this piece and brings the tropic into it. The pinks in the corners are very tropical too which are as charted for dmc.

As I have mentioned previously, I didn't like all of the over 1 stitching of the letters so I did some of those with an alphabet from Better Homes and Gardens 2001 Cross Stitch Designs.

This is probably about half way or close to half way to completion.

New member

I just finished a Just Nan piece, but it is an exchange, so when my partner receives it, I will post the pics. I have many Just Nan in my stash and have many more on my wish list. I know that my eyes are bigger than the ability to stitch it all. Such is the life of a cross stitch addict. Keep stitching, Keep smiling and always remember to ENJOY!

Collaboration Sampler

Hello everyone! :)

Came across a new Just Nan design (ok, new for me!) and after a bit of Googling discovered it was part of a collaboration Nan did with Charland Designs & The Shepherd's Bush.

The Google-force was with me today, as I also found newsletters from a stitching guild that HAD the designs in them. Looks like they were complimentary designs; and since the newsletters weren't hidden in any way on their website, I thought I'd give you the link so you can download the news letters yourself for each chart and we wouldn't be breaking any rules.

http://www.queencitysamplerguild.org/newsletter/freepatterns.htm

Look for the following in the table:

Collaboration Sampler, Part I
Collaboration Sampler, Part II
Collaboration Sampler, Part III

p.s. sorry if you knew about this already; just sharing JUST incase ya don't; Just Nan fans FOREVER!!!

*coughs* sorry, have had WAY too much sugar today.... ^___^

p.s. if you want to see what this looks like stitched up; found some photos online:
Nan Caldera's part is the peacocks, just in case it wasn't obvious.

Just Nan RR

Hello everyone, am just posting this here in case anyone was interested in taking part:

http://twbbroundrobins.yuku.com/topic/1160/master/1/?page=1

I remember seeing photos of a gorgeous Just Nan RR that took place last year, and lament that I wasn't around back then to take part! It looked like so much FUN!

I am most definitely keen, and am really hoping this takes off and more people sign up! :D

Boo Needle Book

Here is the completed Boo needle book from the 'Over the top and in the tin' range. I have stitched it on 32ct Crystal Peach linen rather than the 30ct Weeks Dye Works Carrot linen suggested on the chart (30ct being difficult to get hold of in the UK). As a result the stitched area is 2 3/4" x 2 3/4". I have the tin lid under way.

Here it is before final finishing.

A Colorful New Start

I got a little start today on Sirens of the Sea by Just Nan. It is a really sweet design although there is a lot of over 1 stitching. I have altered some of the over 1 stitching because I don't care for it very much. My fishies are over 2 (I charted these myself) but the ones on the chart are over 1. I am also changing some of the lettering to be over 2; they are all over 1 on the chart. I used violet petite beads for the fishy eyes.

Queen of the Needle is Complete

I finished my version of Queen of the Needle today. This took me two weeks to stitch but I was already getting tired of it towards the end but that is probably because I have a couple of other projects on my mind now. Some parts had a lot of color changes and I don't care for that too much especially when some of the colors were so similar. I will be framing it eventually but I am not sure when.

I have got Sirens of the Sea all ready to start stitching. I pulled the dmc flosses for it today and some variation flosses too. It is not very big but...big surprise, there is quite a bit of over 1 stitching. All of the words are over 1 and I think I am going to find another alphabet to put there that is not over 1; I don't care for over 1 stitching too much, a little is o.k.

The changes I made to QotN are as follows:

Band 1: changed the white corner motifs to light pink (dmc 3689), deleted the small flower pots and added two mill hill bunny buttons. Changed the color of the flowers in the pot from the 3 shades of pink to 1 dmc variations pink (4180).

Band 2: changed from pink to dmc 422 (gold tone) and b/s with petite treasure braid 026 (gold)

Band 3: no changes

Band 4: Pink beads changed to lavender, B/S tops of pansies with black dmc, alternate flower button

Band 5: no changes

Band 6: no changes

Band 7: changed fan vault stitch to a border from Better Homes and Gardens 2001 Cross Stitch Designs, stitched it in dmc variations 4180.

Band 8: Deleted verse, moved 1 bird to band 10, changed pinks in crown to white & ptb 026, changed pink beads to lavender.

Band 9: changed cashmere stitch to a satin diamond stitch.

Band 10: deleted verse, added bird from band 8, added my own flowers with dmc variations (lavender color), added a line of grass, added charms.

Band 11: deleted

Band 12: deleted

Band 13: changed all colors to dmc variations in green for vines, pink and lavender for the flowers, left out round eyelets from center of flowers, added charms.

Between band 13 and band 14: added an opposite for band 2 in dmc 422 and ptb 026.

Band 14: changed white corners to pink (dmc 3689), changed pink beads above tulips to pearl beads, changed the 3 white flowers--deleted 2 and mimiced somewhat flower in band 1 for center flower using a dmc variation floss, left out vines, added over 1 ladybugs from band 11, used Crescent colors desert mesquite for the green leaves.

Voyuerism & a Heads Up

Thought I'd share this gorgeous gallery I found today. It's not mine (I only wish it were) but I had to share it cause there are so many gorgeous Just Nan pieces finished in some awesome ways :)

http://anned.over-blog.com/album-108028.html

Secondly, I've placed my order for Angel Melody through Drema at Needlecraft Corner. She mentioned she only had 3 kits left, once those are gone, thats it, no more. IF you haven't already got it and like the design, get in quick :)

I am almost done with the exchange piece I am working on, then I can start stitching up a Just Nan storm! :D

Just Nan Design List

Hello everyone :)
Thanks for your feedback and thoughts on a page dedicated to listing information on Just Nan's harder to find designs.
I have begun work on the page and you can view it here:

http://www.geekchixxx.com/cross-stitch/just-nan-design-list/

No actual information yet, because I was hoping for help from you guys :)
There is a lot on that list I own myself, but many MANY more that I don't own.

What I would love is if you could please take the time to go over the list, recognise any charts/kits etc you own and hopefully send me as much information you can about it. This includes photos of the chart itself (although not detailed enough to show a workable pattern, but enough so that people can see what they should be getting) or atleast a photo of the completed piece; and information about where it was released, how it was released, and anything special about the design e.g. was it released at a show, was it a complimentary pattern given with purchase of a charm, was it a shop only exclusive etc.

I am also big on giving credit where it's due, so please also tell me how you wish to be credit (your nickname or real name) and the link to your blog or site you want me to link back to.

Contact me on: asrafrate @ gmail . com
(remove the spaces)

ANY help would be appreciated; and hopefully with our powers combined (sorry couldn't resist that line LOL!) we'll make a resource for Just Nan fans everywhere. Thankyou! :)

Queen of the Needle

I started this last Friday and this is what I have accomplished in a week. It's a pretty fair amount I guess. I really enjoy all of the creativity I get to use on this piece. I have changed a lot of things already. The fabric is a really super light pink. When I chose the fabric, I spent a lot of thought looking at my fabrics and picking what I thought would work and this is what I ended up choosing; it is 28 count honeysuckle pink jobelyn. The top corner motifs I did in dmc 3689 which wasn't my first choice. I really wanted to do it in white like the chart but white just wasn't showing up very good on this fabric. I have stitched this design before and the one I had done before was on checkered pink graziano linen and the white corners just do not show up very good at all. But the pink floss looks good too. The roses that are under the gold tone band near the top is a 40 step stitch; it looks a little intimidating going into it but it is really quite simple. The diagrams that Just Nan gives are absolutely awesome!

In case anyone is interested in the changes I have made, they are as follows:
(band 9) The center cashmere stitch I changed to a diamond silk stitch (not sure if this is the right name of it).

(bands 8 & 10)I took out the verses and put the bird from one band into the band with the bunnies, I also added a line of grass all the way across the band (I used a variation dark green floss) and am going to add a flower next to each bunny.

I changed the colors of the inside of the crown from pinks to treasure braid petite gold (026) and white.

I changed the fan vault stitch (band 7) to a border out of Better Homes and Gardens 2001 cross stitch designs, chapter on borders. I used dmc variations 4180.

I backstitched the top of the pansies (band 4) with one strand of black. I will be backstitching the daisies with one strand of ptb 026(band 3).

I changed the color of the satin stitch (near top, band 2, triangular pattern) from pink to a goldish color (dmc 422) and backstitched the whole thing top and bottom with petite treasure braid gold (026)

In the top band I left out the two side flower pots and added two mill hill bunny buttons. I changed the color of the middle green stems to lighter green, I changed the color of the 3 pinks in the flowers to dmc variations 4180.

I changed the corner border motifs from white to dmc 3689.

I changed the pink beads in bands 4 & 8 to lilac beads.

I am using an alternate Just Nan button in the center of bands 3 & 4. (one that I already had in my stash).

More changes to come...

Introduction and Anniversary biscornu

Hello everybody! My name is Heather and I live in Seattle. Zeb told me about this blog, and I'm excited to be here to chat about Just Nan. My newest JN finish is the Anniversary biscornu:

Anniversary biscornu by Just Nan
Opal Rainbow Dreams Cashel linen (28ct)
Stitched with DMC

My blog has more photos of this biscornu and other JN finishes.

Now I'm waiting (not very patiently) for the pinkeep and new pins to arrive in the mail. I look forward to getting to know all of you and admiring all the lovely Just Nan designs. :)

Heather

PS: Almost forgot -- Shakespeare's Peddler is having a sale right now, and several Just Nan charts are 50% off. Some of the charts include embellishments, too. Worth checking out!

Queen of the Needle start

I have started working on Queen of the Needle this week. This one is a very enjoyable one for me since I love nature motifs and especially bunnies. As usual I have made some personal changes from the way it is charted. I usually leave out anything that is written on most samplers. It is stitched on 28 count honeysuckle pink jobelyn over 2 using 2 strands of dmc floss.

Scream Girls and Trick ORTreat Box

I finished these last year but I have to admit, the Trick ORTreat Box by far is one of my favorites that Nan has put out to date (that and Scream House which I can't wait to start soon). I'm anxious for Halloween to come so I can show you all my Nan Tree. This ornament is a part of it!

The Trick ORTreat Box was a Silver Needle exclusive a few years back. My advise to you is to get her exclusives when you can when the Silver Needle puts them out. For some reason, the Silver Needles exclusives are just AWESOME and worth getting even if you don't do them for a while. Also, this was my very FIRST finish on my own, so please excuse the sloppy spots. I was scared to death to finish it and it took me two very long days to do it! lol Enjoy!

Thanks for Joining

I want to thank each of you for joining the Just Nan Junction blog. I look forward to experiencing our love for Just Nan designs together. Each of you will have your own wonderful contribution to making this the best place on the web to browse Just Nan goodness. I am priviliged to be your host.

Hugs,

Queen of the Needle Sampler Sewing Case

Hi everyone, thought I'd give a heads up to anyone looking to purchase the Silver Needle Class Exclusive Just Nan design 'Queen of the Needle Sampler Sewing Case.'

It is being sold in this auction at a pretty good price imho, but unfortunately I cannot purchase it. Pains me too, because I really want this, but have sworn off buying any more stash until I've gotten a job. And of course, by then, this auction will be over *sighs*

Goodluck to anyone who does decide to bid :)

p.s. would rather something like this go to a JN fan than someone who would buy to on-sell, or worse, scan.

A Just Nan COMPLETE Product List?

Hi again everyone :)
No photos to share, but a question to ask and suggestions and advice requested too please.

Firstly, am I the only one that gets frustrated at how difficult it is to find information on some of Just Nan's older or limited edition designs, frames, embellishments etc.?

Yes Nan provides an excellent site, better than most, but it isn't complete, and navigating and trying to find info can be difficult. The number of times I've found information on her site by searching for 'just nan insert design name here' on GOOGLE, and coming up with a page on her site is legion.
e.g. Peacock Tapestry - http://www.justnan.com/ptp6.html
I can find NO information on it when using the nagivation features on her site, but I get the above link when I search on Google.

And there are some designs I can hardly find ANY information on, like this gorgeous Garden Glamour limited edition kit she did by a fellow stitcher Emily.
Check out the rest of her album btw, she has some stunningly finished JNs in there :D

I have been thinking for some time about compiling a more "complete" list of ALL of Just Nan's designs. This is going to be a work in progress because I don't know all the designs she has done, and am always discovering new ones.
My question is, would such a list be useful to Just Nan fans like yourself?
What sort of information would you like to see on it?
Photos are a must of course, but this isn't a list I can compile on my own since I don't have many of these designs, and there is precious little official material out there. The ONLY image of Garden Glamour I have seen is Emily's!
So I would also need help.

What do you guys think? Worth doing?

2009 Over the Top Tin Series Snow

Here is the first tin of the 2009 season called Snow, done on the the required fabric with DMC. I enjoyed doing this one as I love the birds! They are so cute! It's like they are yelling "HEY YOU THERE...FEED ME!" The little mitten is a needle case and was a challenge to sew together but with persistance, I did it. I have a quite a few more Nan's to share but I'll need to take pictures of them...more later!

Just Nan Dragonfly Charms

Hello everyone :)
Received a variety of charms today; specifically the three Dragonfly charms I had ordered from Susan Clarke Originals, and a random assortment of charms needed to complete other charts from Sew and So UK.

Posting this because I wanted to show you that the dragonfly charms are exactly the same as those listed by Just Nan JNC15 - http://www.justnan.com/charms.htm
